It's not everyday you can wear a hat to class without getting in trouble.

ButFriday was an exception at Alexander II Elementary School in Macon. Students each donated $1 to wear an hat in support of "Jays HOPE," a Macon-based charity that helpchildrenbattling cancer.

"Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer," says Principal Cindy Canova. She says the event is a great way to get students involved in giving back to the community.

All the funds go directly to the charity and stay locally in the Macon area. Jays HOPE's mission, according to their site is "to improve the quality of life of children with cancer and their families by extending hope through social, emotional, spritiual, educational, and financial support."
