MACON, Ga. (School Release)- The Mercer men's soccer team won its fourth-straight match and is 3-0-0 to start Atlantic Sun Conference play for the first time since 2009 with a 1-0 win over Stetson on Sunday afternoon at Bear Field.

Mercer (8-3-1, 3-0-0 A-Sun) won its fifth-straight home match over a Stetson (2-5-0, 1-1-0 A-Sun) side that hadn't played a match in 11 days to retain sole possession of first place in the A-Sun Conference standings.

The Bears jumped out in front thanks to another first half goal, the seventh time they have scored in the first 45 minutes of a game this season. After a header by sophomore Ashani Samuels was saved, senior Josh Shutter stepped up and hammered home a rebound attempt to give Mercer a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute of play.

The Orange and Black would settle in after the goal and fend off Stetson's offensive pressure for the remainder of the match.

The player of the game for either side without question was Mercer sophomore goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh. The Pickering, Ontario native made a career-high 10 saves, including a diving one-handed stop of a Stetson free kick with 35 seconds left in the match, to preserve the win.

Senior Richie Edmondson paced the Mercer attack with three shots, while Samuels record at least one point for the fourth-straight match.

Things don't get any easier for Mercer next time out, as it travels to Tampa to take on No. 15 South Florida on October 10. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Corbett Soccer Stadium.
