MACON, Ga. (School Release)- Thanks to a solid showing in two tough Atlantic Sun Conference road games this past weekend, freshman goalkeeper Maggie Cropp was voted the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week on Monday morning.

The weekly conference honor for Cropp is the second given to a Mercer women's soccer player this season, with junior forward Casey Barrett winning A-Sun player of the Week honors on September 17.

"Maggie is very deserving of this award and she has been playing phenomenal of late to help our team get off to a great start in conference play," head coach Tony Economopoulos said. "Coming in as a freshman it's always a little difficult with the speed of play in the college game, but she has progressed every week and if she keeps improving she will certainly help us down the stretch."

Cropp helped extend Mercer's season-high eight-game unbeaten streak (6-0-2) by recording a pair of road shutouts. The Morgan Hill, Calif. native made one save in a 0-0 tie against Lipscomb on October 5 and stopped six shots in a 1-0 Mercer win at Northern Kentucky on October 7.

Since taking over as the Bears full-time goalkeeper, Cropp has put up some impressive numbers, ranking first in the A-Sun Conference in goals against average (0.36) and third in shutouts (3).

Cropp and the rest of the Bears look to keep things rolling in A-Sun Conference play when they welcome Jacksonville into town on October 12. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Bear Field.
