TAMPA, Florida (WTSP) -- The Super Asian Buffet is known for its all-you-can-eat $6.99 lunch special.
"It wasn't that bad of food," said customer Sam Gonzalez on his way out.
What wasn't all right was the restaurant's October 10th health inspection. The state documented 30 violations, 19 considered critical.
Among the issues were:
Food not properly date marked
Temperature violations on the buffet line
Food stored in the same ice used for drinks
A can of bug spray right next to the front grill
"I might not be eating here again," said Gonzalez. "They should take care of their place. If I were the owner of a restaurant, I would make sure everything was clean."
But it's what one customer says she found on her visit that has everyone disgusted. According to an official complaint filed with the state, that customer was just finishing up her meal when she discovered a small roach inside her drink of Diet Coke.
"I don't want to even think about that one," said Gonzalez. "That's pretty nasty."
When inspectors went in they too found roaches by the ice machine, near the drink syrup dispenser, and crawling around the food containers.
So we stopped in to ask about the problems and find out if the kitchen was cleaned up. When we asked for permission to take a look inside, we were told no manager was on duty.
"The manager not here," said the hostess.
"Umm... I don't know... Can you come back tomorrow?"
The hostess repeatedly tried calling the manager.
"He no answer my phone so..."
We even left a message for the manager on his cell phone, but never heard back, leaving many customers to wonder what's going on inside this kitchen.
"That makes it more disgusting," said Joey Rivera. "It looks like they're hiding something."
