A smokey fire struck an east Macon apartment building Friday afternoon.

It happened around noon at the Kingston Apartments on Boulevard, off Old Clinton Road.

The fire started in an apartment beloning to Arkneeia Chandler. Fire Sgt. Ben Gleaton says the fire probably started from her electric heating unit in a closet.

Chandler and her two young boys were not home at the time

The fire burned two units and caused smoke damage inanother.Chandler's mother and step father live in the third apartment down. That's where she's staying while she gets on her feet.

It took firefighters about two hours to put out the blaze.
