STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. (WXIA) -- Friends and family will soon bid their final farewells to Henry County Police Officer Elgin Daniel.
The 53-year-old was killed by a hit and run driver while helping a stranded motorist in Stockbridge Monday night.
A viewing and visitation for Daniel will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at the Horace A. Ward Funeral Home on Fairview Road in Stockbridge.
His funeral will be held at 1 p.m Friday at the Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church on Flat Shoals Parkway in Decatur.
A graveside service will be held immediately after the funeral at Fairview Memorial Gardens on Fairview Road in Stockbridge.
Officer Daniel leaves behind a wife and three grown children.
Before joining the Henry County Police force, he served with DeKalb County Police for 26 years and retired as a lieutenant. Thursday morning, DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis directed staff to lower flags to half staff in Daniel's honor.
