SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento County Sheriff's homicide detectives made an arrest in a shooting death of an Atlanta man Saturday morning in north Sacramento County.
Duane Lomax, 35, was found dead in his car with multiple gunshot wounds. A short time earlier, around 2 a.m., Lomax made a 911 call to authorities saying he was following a car that was driven by a woman who had brandished a gun at him. He told the dispatch operator the car was also occupied by a second female.
According to Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos, gunshots were heard during the 9-1-1 call and the phone was disconnected. When officers arrived at the intersection of Predial Way and Essence Way, they discovered two vehicles in close proximity to the victim's car. One of the vehicles matched the description Lomax had given the 9-1-1 operator.
An investigation determined that Brian Jones, 24, a relative of the women being followed by Lomax, received a call from them telling him they were unsure what to do. Investigators believe Jones arrived at the scene where Lomax was with the intent to confront him.
Sunday detectives arrested Jones and charged him with murder and parole violation. He is being held without bail.
Ramos said investigators also concluded there was no evidence the two women were in possession of a weapon during the incident.
