Paris, France (Sports Network) - German Mona Barthel toppled top seed Sara Errani to capture the title at the GDF Suez Open.

The unseeded Barthel stunned the French Open runner-up Errani in 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) fashion in Sunday's final on the indoor hardcourt at Stade Coubertin.

The 22-year-old Barthel is now 2-1 in her career WTA finals. She was a runner- up in Hobart last month and titled at that same Australian Open tune-up last year.

The 25-year-old Errani fell to 6-5 in her career finals. She was a four-time titlist last season.

Barthel and Errani met for the first time on Sunday. The German claimed $129,000 for the victory, while Errani settled for $68,500.
