Two college students died in Montgomery County in what authorities are calling a freak accident.

Jonathan Bell and Kevin Camp died after a tall pine tree fell on their pickup truck.

That's according to Cpl. Eric Wilkes of the Georgia State Patrol in Helena.

Wilkes said it happened around 2:40 p.m. Thursday, on Highway 280 near the town of Ailey in Montgomery.

Both Bell and Camp are baseball players at Brewton Parker College and were headed to baseball practice. Both are from Jasper County.

Wilkes said there was a slight wind when the tree fell and the tree's roots were weakened by this week's heavy rains.
