The McClatchy Company named Middle Georgia native and experienced newspaper executive Donald W. Bailey as president and publisher of The Telegraph.

No stranger toThe Telegraph,Bailey began his career as a summer advertising intern in 1984 and was born west of Macon, in Thomaston, Ga., according to a release.

Bailey brings experience from The Times in Shreveport, La. where he'd been president and publisher since January 2012. He also served as president of The Augusta Chronicle in Georgia from 2004-2011.

Bailey replaces George McCanless, who left The Telegraphin January to serve as president and CEO for United Way.

Bailey earned his bachelor's in journalism from the University of Georgia and his MBA from Georgia College.
