The Rutland Lady Hurricanes Soccer team is making school history this season on the pitch.

The Lady Canes are 10-4 overall and 5-1 in region play. Under the leadership of coach Tony Jones the girls have made the playoffs for the first time in the schools history.

Wednesday afternoon the Lady Canes were busy practicing for their last region game of the season versus an undefeated league leading Veterans squad. The outcome of the game will only affect playoff seeding but will help the orange and green gauge just how good they are.

Coach Tony Jones explains, "We're a young school and it's good anytime you can get in the playoffs. The other programs have had success. Our softball went to the elite 8, our ladies basketball girls went to the state semi finals a couple of years ago. Now the soccer team is coming on as a spring sport. We feel like we've grown up a bit this year."

Senior Sarah Hulett agrees, "This years team is really not that different although we lost 3 people but we gained 6. We work together really well and we communicate. We play as a team, we aren't selfish and we pass a lot and were all really close friends. We want it more!"

Thursday Rutland takes on Veterans on the road in Kathleen.
