A 71-year-old man found dead at Macon's Dempsey Apartments probably died at least three weeks ago, according to Bibb County coroner Leon Jones.

He said Max McFarland was found dead Thursday after a Meals on Wheels delivery person noticed the smell from his apartment.

Jones said McFarland apparently has been dead since at least March 29. The cause of death appeared to be natural, he said.

He could not say if the Meals on Wheels had been delivered during that time.

The apartments are located at 523 Cherry St.

He didn't have any further information on McFarland or his death.

Jones did want to remind everyone to take a moment and check on your neighbors from time to time.
