Just a few days before official qualifying starts, the first candidate stepped into the ring for the District 9 seat for the new Macon-Bibb government.

James Timley, current Macon city council president, says he plans to run for that commission spot.

Timley joined council in 1999.

District 9 starts at Pierce Avenue and extends toward Interstate 475.

Timley is the only one to announce for that district so far. Another city council member, Lauren Benedict, is also zoned for that seat. Benedict says she has not decided if she will run.
