MILLEDGEVILLE- The Rutland Hurricanes Boys and Girls Track teams made history today by winning their first ever Region 2-AAAA Championships in school history. The Rutland Boys beat West Laurens of Dublin 132 to 108 and also set a Region record with a 3:17.44 in the 4x400 Meter Relay (Kibwe Troupe, Demarius Williams, Darius Cooper, & DeAndre Person). The Canes came into the finals trailing West Laurens by 10 points but quickly closed the gap in the sprint events.

The Lady Hurricanes came into the day with only a .50 point lead over reigning back to back champion Veterans Lady Warhawks, but after the Rutland ladies blazed to a 48.51 in the 4x100 Meter Relay, Adriunna Brown & Janai Scott were first and second in the 400 Meter and Tyler Ragin ran a 12.21 in the 100 Meter, the Lady Canes finished the meet with a commanding 152 to 89.50 victory over Veterans to become Region Champions. The Lady Canes also set meet records in the 4x400 Meter Relay with a 4:06.25.

Rutland Lady Hurricane Adriunna Brown was the women's High Point Champion winning gold in every event (400M, 300 Hurdles, Long Jump, 4x100 Relay, and 4x400 Relay) and West Laurens Keandre Williams was the boys High Point winner edging out Rutland's Brandon Bawn. These teams will prepare for the AAAA State Sectionals beginning next Saturday in Statesboro, GA.
