The Macon Police Department got some new technology Friday to help keep you safe.

Twenty-six department vehicles were added to its fleet. Each of them are outfitted with a new 800 megahertz, 4 in 1, Harris radio system.

Joseph Taylor, Telecommunications manager for the city of Macon, said the new system will help to avoid dead spots and is more reliable.

"These radios will allow them to talk to fire department. They can talk to the Sheriff's department or any other inter-agency, inter-government within this area or from other regions," said Taylor.

Mayor Robert Reichert said the full system should be up and running by August.
