Macon has been highlighted for positive community efforts.

A National League of Cities report, supported by the Knight Foundation, included Macon as a "Bright Spot," one of 14 cities that actively works to "build greater civic participation," according to a release.

Specifically, the report spotlights College Hill Corridor initiative and "redevelopment effort" as a model for public participation and engagement.

College Hill Corridor started in 2007 as a redevelopment effort in Macon involving economic and civic revitalization of neighborhoods near Mercer University, backed by the Knight Foundation.
