MACON, Ga. (School Release)- Despite being eliminated on day three of the 2013 Atlantic Sun Baseball Championship, the Mercer baseball team was still represented on the All-Tournament Team as sophomore Chesny Young was voted onto the squad that was released on Sunday evening.
Young led the team with a .556 (5-for-9) batting average, five RBI and a .556 slugging percentage during Championship play.
The Atlanta, Ga. native recorded a hit in all three of Mercer's games in the tournament to extend his hitting streak up to a career-best 28 games, the longest such streak of any player in the A-Sun Conference this season.
So far during this record breaking 2013 campaign for Mercer, Young leads the A-Sun Conference with a .394 batting average while leading the entire nation with 100 hits. He also ranks second in the league with a .453 on-base percentage and 61 RBI.
The All-Tournament Team selection is the fourth major award for Young in the past week as he was named the A-Sun Conference Player of the Year, an A-Sun All-Conference first team selection and an A-Sun All-Academic team member when league honors were announced on May 21.
Young and the rest of the Bears will now have to wait until Selection Monday to hear its fate in the upcoming NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. The NCAA selection show airs on ESPNU at 12 Noon (ET) on Monday, May 27. With an RPI of 29 and a 10-6 record against the RPI top-100, there is a strong chance that the Bears will receive their first at-large bid in program history.
