The City of Macon began demolishing its old Central Services Building Thursday to make way for a major downtown project.

The city building was located on Riverside Drive near Spring Street.

That site is expected to become the site of Renaissance on the River, a mixed commercial and residential project.

According to a city of Macon report, the project is slated to include restaurants, offices, retail space and a hotel.
