Cookie sales are over, but one Warner Robins Girl Scout troop is still serving its community.

Troop 60504 is working on their silver award, the highest honor a Cadette scout can receive. Once the girls and their moms learned about the severe blood shortage, they decided to make a difference.

"When we talked to them, they told us about the shortage, and we thought that we could help," said scout Sydney Basti.

Basti and her fellow scouts, Ellie Brooks and Melanie Hughes, worked over fifty hours to organize the drive. The troop has already enlisted over one hundred donors for their blood drive Friday.

Troop moms Dawn Hughes, Jen Basti, and Wendy Brooks were amazed with their girls' work ethic.

"We're hoping that other people see that these three teenage girls, that are young, they can't even drive a car, was able to do this, maybe it will inspire somebody else to either get out in the area and donate, or just organize one," Hughes.

The drive will take place Friday, June 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warner Robins.
