Friends, family and city leaders gathered at the Macon City Auditorium to say their final goodbyes to Jimmie Samuel, the longtime executive director of the Macon-Bibb Economic Opportunity Council.

It was bittersweet for those who attended Samuel's memorial service, as they reflected on his life and the impact he made on the community.

Friends said Samuel's goal was to improve schools and the lives of those less fortunate.

"He was very assertive. The was never any doubt to anyone in his presence concerning how he felt about any issue. He was quite verbal but very genuine and honest and I'm gonna miss that,"says Elois Cobb.

Samuel was 64 years old.
