Summer vacation is over for Jones County students.

Tuesday was the first day of school.

Parents dropped off their kids as early as 7:00 a.m.Tuesday morning.

Dames Ferry Elementary off Highway 18 has teachers lined up, ready to greet their students.

There was excitement but also a few tears.

"It's bittersweet because they're once babies, now they're growing up," says Monica Jackson, a mother of two.

Jackson took both her children to their classes and documented the entire trip with photos.

"My little daughter, she got up earlier than usual. She usually gets up at nine. She got up before me this morning. My little boy, he was hard to wake up," she says.

Class began at 8:05 this morning and ended at 3:00 p.m.
