DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a DeKalb County police officer has been arrested in connection with an investigation into a drug trafficking ring.

DeKalb Police Chief Cedric Alexander says William Miguel was arrested Friday as he came to work on a charge of conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine.

Authorities say Miguel, part of the department's gang unit, has been placed on administrative leave. Police say Miguel is 43 years old and has been with the department for 11 years.

Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/18ASdv3 ) that authorities believe Miguel was funneling vital police information to the head of a drug organization as well as providing security and counter-surveillance. A home number for Miguel could not be found, and it was not immediately known whether he had an attorney.
