A Roberta farm group is hosting a gluten-free information workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 23 at Centenary Church, 1290 College St. in Macon.

The workshop will be led by Jen Richardson and Melody Buller, who are both living gluten-free along with their families.

Gluten is a protein composite found in wheat and similar species such as barley and rye. It is an allergen for many people and consuming it can lead to abdominal pain and illness.

The workshop is being facilitated by Digging Roots Educational Farms, an organization that focuses on food safety, farmer education and sustainable living.

Digging Roots was founded by Naomi Davis of Davis Farms in Roberta.

Cost for the workshop is $10 and will include gluten-free recipes, food samples and related workshop materials, according to a news release from Digging Roots.
