A Macon mother whose 13-year-old son was shot in the face on Friday and died Saturday says she forgives the other teen involved. Witnesses told the police that the victim, Marquez Blount, and the 16-year-old suspect were handling the gun before it went off.
Blount's mother, Miriam Dean, describes her son as a quiet, unique person who loved music and drawing.
"He'll run up and hug me, too. He'll be like, 'I love you, too, Mom,' you know what I am saying? We just had a bond," said Dean.
She said that she doesn't know why her son and the 16-year-old suspect were playing with the gun and that her son was never around guns.
Blount wants teens to take a lesson from her son's death.
"I want them to know the danger of guns, that's something that you don't play with them," said Dean.
Dean says the 16-year-old suspect, who has not been identified by name, was friends with her son. She says she forgives the suspect.
"To the other family, I would like to say my heart and my prayers go out to them, and that I know it was an accident and I forgive that person," said Dean. "I really would like to meet with the other family because we are both hurting. I am not just hurting by myself, I know they are hurting also."
