Some Georgia College students, and others used potatoes to make a difference during an event that will provide food for140,000people in Central Georgia.

Forty-thousandpounds of potatoes were donated by the Society of St. Andrews to the Give Center at Georgia College.

Director of the center, Kendall Stiles, says over 200 volunteers were on hand to bag the potatoes.

The potatoes were given to several non-profit and faith based organizations in Central Georgia.

Stiles says those organizations will distribute the potatoes to families in need.

"We do have people in the tri-county, or the central Georgia area that are starving everyday. So, it's very important to get these potatoes to the right people because this may be the only thing that they have to eat Today, Tomorrow, or next week," said Stiles.

Stiles says the event is a proven way to bring the Milledgeville community together for a service project.
