A judge on Friday granted bond for a man accused of trying to snatch a child outside a Macon elementary school.

Judge Howard Simms agreed to release Maduabuchi Christian Ogo from the Bibb County jail, with some conditions.

He's been in jail for a week, ever since a disturbance at the Springdale Elementary School.

His family says he was just trying to pick up his grandchildren from school. They call it a misunderstanding caused by language and culture barriers.

Dstrict Attorney David Cooke had opposed bond, and a judge this week ordered a psychological evaluation on the man.

But late Friday afternoon, Cooke said new information on Ogo's condition and state of mind changed his position on the case.

He said Ogo might have had problems perceiving reality, but would not explain.

Underthe bond order signed late Friday afternoon by Judge Howard Simms, Ogo must surrender his passport, must stay home with his family and stay away from schools.

Cooke said his office will continue to gather information on the case and decide whether to prosecute.

Ogo is a native of Nigeria and reportedly speaks no English. For now, he remains in a local hospital.
