Middle Georgia State College officially has its second president.

Christopher Blake takes the new position in the new year, on Jan.y 1, 2014, according to a release.

He'll be at the helm of five campuses with a total of approximately 8,000 students.

The Georgia Board of Regents and University System of Georgia named him the finalist, as the law requires them to do publicly before a final vote.

Blake most recently served as president of Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids and had been on sabbatical for this school year in Iowa, according to a release.

Blake has also served as an associate dean at Towson University in Maryland and has been a tenured professor at Towson and Mount St. Mary's University.

He has his bachelor's and master's degree in theology and received his Ph.D in education from the University of London, King's College.
