Thirty-five Macon police officers are swapping one badge for another.

They were sworn in this morning as Bibb County deputies.

It's part of the merger of the two departments which becomes official Jan. 1.

Law enforcement officials and fellow officers filled Precinct One on Shurling drive to see the officers receive their new badges.

Sheriff David Davis thanked the men for their service as they transition to positions under the new government.

Davis has already sworn in several Macon police units including the K-9, traffic and the bomb squad.

Officer Jayson Randle says he's ready for the challenge.

"I've been on the force for about 13 years,"said Randle.

"I love helping folks out, people that's in need, being there for them, I'm a people person so I just love doing what I can do tohelp someone out. "he added

Davis plans three more swearing-in ceremonies by the end of November and then a mass event for the entire force, family and friendsin January.

His combined department will have around 396 sworn deputies.
