Barbara Williams has worked alongside mayor John Stumbo for 16 years.

Now, she's taking the Peach city's top job.

Williams won Tuesday's mayoral race by 70 votes, ending Stumbo's 16-year run.

She said Stumbo reached out and congratulated her Tuesday night.

The 63-year-old is hoping to make big changes for the city with a focus on downtown development.

She saidshe believes that's the reason she won.

"There are some things that I see that need to be implemented that I think I can help to focus in that direction, like more industry, more restaurants," said Williams.

The retired teacher also said many people just thought it was time for a change.

Williams has about two months to spend time with family and even get a little fishing in before she starts her new role as mayor.
