If there was any doubt about the popularity of film star Paul Walker, killed a week ago in a fiery car crash, and the near cult-status of the Fast and Furious movie series, an arrest this past week underscored it.

An 18-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested for allegedly stealing parts off the 2005 Porsche in which Walker and a friend. The wreckage was on a tow truck on the way to the impound yard, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies report.

Several fans apparently followed the tow truck as it left the scene in the town of Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles, after the single-car crash. At a stoplight, the driver of the tow truck saw one of the men dash from his car, grab a piece of the wreckage and flee.

Deputies arrested Jameson Witty as he left his home in the Tujunga section of Los Angeles. They obtained a search warrant for another residence to search for the missing part, the red T-top roof panel off the wrecked 2005 Porsche Carrera GT.

A second suspect, a 25-year-old, was being sought. Witty was booked into jail as deputies sought charges of felony grand theft and evidence tampering.
