ASPEN HILL, Md. (WUSA9) -- When a blind man was walking through a major Montgomery County intersection with cars buzzing by, a local police officer jumped into action to make sure he made it across safely.

In a photo captured by a passerby, a Montgomery County police officer can be seen assisting a blind man with a walking stick at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Connecticut Avenue in Aspen Hill.

The officer is said to have held up traffic at the intersection before exiting his vehicle to escort the man through the intersection.

The person wrote in to the Montgomery County Police Department Facebook page to make sure the officer receives a proper thank you.

"Give him the recognition for being a real life hero!!!", she wrote.
