Many Georgia students continue to struggle in math and science tests, according to results of the state's 2014 CRCT tests.

The statewide Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests tests are aimed at measuring students' progress in key subjects. The test is given to students in grades 3-8/

Next year, the CRCT will be replaced by a new test, the Georgia Milestones.

This year's tests showed that number of students failing to meet math and science standards was still rising at some grade levels.

Fewer fourth, seventh and eighth graders met state math standards in 2014 than the year before. For example, 18.5 eighth graders -- nearly one out of five -- didn't make the math grade. Last year, it was 17.0 percent.

Students at four out of six grade levels -- third, fourth, fifth and seventh -- lost ground on the science CRCTs.

For example, 19.1 percent of fourth graders failed to meet science standards this year. Last year, it was 17 percent.

Students fared better on the reading, English language arts and social students tests.

On the reading test, the number of students who did not meet standards dropped at every grade level except seventh. That stayed the same, 5.3 percent.

More students did not meet the English language arts standard in fourth and sixth grade. The other grades showed improvement. For example, 11.3 percent of fourth graders, about one out of nine, didn't make the standard. Last year, it was 9.8 percent.

In social students, more third, sixth, seventh and eighth graders meet the standards. But 18.8 percent of fourth graders and 19,3 percent of fifth graders failed to meet standards.

Overall, more students met or exceeded state standards than last year on 18 of the 30 tests. More students failed to make the standard on 11 tests and one grade level -- seventh-grade reading -- stayed the same.

District-level results will be released later this month and school-by-school results in July.

Here's the breakdown of those that met and didn't meet the standard (a score of 800) for each portion of this year's test.
