Students at Southwest High School and the mother of a slain teen gathered Friday morning for a memorial service.
16-year-old Alyssa Jackson was killed in a drive-by shooting two weeks ago on Cedar Avenue in Macon.
In an emotional ceremony, the Southwest High School choir sang a song in memory of Jackson, and the dance team performed a skit to Lifehouse's "Everything."
Principal Tanzy Kilcrease made remarks, saying Jackson was "a vibrant young lady who was always filled with a lot of energy."
The theme of the service was "Stop the Violence."
Kilcrease said she wanted students to take home the message that "violence is not the answer to anything."
"We have lost too many in this community and even at this school to senseless acts of violence."
13WMAZ's Anita Oh spoke to Jackson's mother, Shenese Brown, but Brown declined to comment on-camera.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with more information is asked to call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME.
