Macon officers turn in their badges, for new stars as deputies.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office has new deputies among its ranks Wednesday, after a pinning ceremony Tuesday night.
As part of consolidation, the Macon Police Department has united with BCSO. Officers received their official badges Tuesday and will get right to work. More than 300 Macon Police officers are transferring over, bringing manpower at BCSO to more than 600 deputies. With office staff, the sheriff's office will have more than 700 employees.
Under the transfer, patrol officers become deputies, and detectives become investigators.
