A Monroe County firefighter is in stable condition after being hit by an ambulance Wednesday.

It happened early afternoon off Highway 87 in Juliette, according to Matt Perry, the county's emergency management director.

Perry said county officials are still sorting out details of the accident to find out what went wrong. He would not release the firefighter's name.

He said firefighters were responding to a medical call when the ambulance got stuck in mud. The firefighter was behind the ambulance when he was hit, Perry said

He said, "I don't think we know enough details to make any statement on this yet."

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is also investigating the case, Perry said.
