Mrs. Tracy Mullis was stunned when we delivered her late Christmas present. That's because second grader, Brayuna Deans, nominated her teacher before the holidays.
"She lets me read first, and that's what I like most about her and more," says Brayuna as she reads from the letter she wrote to nominate her teacher for the award.
Brayuna isn't the only one who thinks Mrs. Mullis is a top teacher.
"She is a wonderful reading teacher," says student Cole Blackwell.
Another second grader, Marci Oliver, says, "Well she loves all of us."
The outgoing teacher likes to mix in games like popcorn to make learning more fun.
"When you get done reading one page you get to pick the next person to read the next one," Cole says about popcorn.
"Ilove being able to teach them and see their face light up when they accomplish something," says Mrs. Mullis.
She teaches three subjects -- reading, language, and spelling.
"I want to make sure they enjoy reading because reading takes you places, lots of places," says Mrs. Mullis.
Mrs Mullis has been teaching for 15 years, 10 at Wilcox County Elementary and has never been surprised like this.
