Taricka Russell has only been teaching 4th grade at Macon County Elementary in Oglethorpe for two years, but she's already won some awards. Her first year, she was chosen by administrators as the "Rookie of the Year." Now, she's this week's My Teacher is Tops winner.

Russell grew up in Atlanta and says she always wanted to be a teacher, and says she wants to make a difference coming from a big city to teach in a small town. "I just want them to get what they need to go to college, and they'll know coming from a smaller county, you can be anything you want to be," she says.

Russell teaches everything from language arts to math and science. Her students say she uses hands on methods in her lessons, such as using a ball to teach students about moon rotation.

Her success in the classroom has gotten the attention of her principal, Gail Smith. "Just keep up the good work," she says. "She's going to be an administrator someday, I feel sure."
