Carrie McNair teaches 4th grade at David A. Perdue Elementary School.

She has been teaching for 14 years and loves teaching all subjects.

"I love to read first off, so reading is cool. But I love science and social studies," she said, "I love the experiments and just getting to do different things."

One of her students, Hannah Hamrick, wrote the letter nominating Ms. McNair.

"She sometimes plays kickball with us and she tells us stories about her husband and her two kids," Hamrick read out loud.

"She's funny and she's not as strict as other teachers I've had," said student Ayden Walker.

"She makes it more simple when she tells us about math and stuff," Sericah Carr said.

Principal Andy Payne says Ms. McNair goes above and beyond for her students even when she's not at school.

"One of her students yesterday had an emergency surgery for her appendix," Payne said, "Ms. McNair was at the hospital last night, there checking on her, making sure that she was okay. That's what type of teacher she is."

"We really learn the academics, but I'm really trying to get them to learn to be the best people they can be," McNair said.
