Breyonna Vick just graduated from high school, and she's already getting real-world experience in the field of pharmacy after changing her mind about becoming a doctor.

"I went to the hospital and had some time with that and realized the goriness of it all. I couldn't take it, so I'd rather help people in another way and still make an impact on people, so I chose pharmacy."

Thanks to the help of the Next Level Community Development Center and their program called the Job Club, Vick says she's getting the training she needs.

"We were placed in jobs. Some jobs we did like. Some jobs we didn't. But it really helped us find out what we really wanted to do. Here at the pharmacy, I can say I enjoy it and I do like being here."

Lakesia Toomer with Next Level Community Development Center says the organization started as an outreach ministry of the Bibb Mount Zion Baptist Church in 2000.

Since, it has blossomed into an opportunity to help young people build confidence and stay on track with their career goals.

"It's not just having the after-school program. It's not just Monday through Friday for two to three hours a week or when they're here for the summer program. Most of us have strong relationships with the students and we're there in every area or their lives," said Toomer.

Wade Scott, a Macon pharmacist of 35 years, is one of many employers that supports Next Level's summer employment program.

"I believe that as professions and the owner of Healthcare Pharmacy, it's important that we give back so this is a win-win for us," said Scott.

Scott says he's impressed with Vick's work ethic and encourages others to have the same drive and dedication.

"We are very pleased with Breyonna. You can tell that she is doing very well and is very professional. I think it's a great program and I think young people should seek it out and get involved," said Scott.

Vick says she's glad she's a part of the Next Level experience and looks forward to a long and lucrative career as a pharmacist.
