School is back in session, and so is our My Teacher is Tops program.
Junior Journalist Logan Arnold went to Rutland Middle School where he surprised the first top teacher for this school year.
Mrs. Pamela Harrington is a sixth grade Science teacher at Rutland Middle School, and although they've only been in session a few weeks, Sydney Wright thinks her teacher is the best she's ever had.
"She has an incredible sense of humor. She is grateful for every student in every class that she teaches," explains Wright.
Mrs. Harrington knew she wanted to teach at a young age. "As a child I would practice with my sisters, brothers and friends. It was something that felt natural," says Harrington.
Some say her teaching style is unique, even magical.
"It's kind of like a Harry Potter stick. She says it's like a pointer. You point on the board, and she thinks it's magic. And we agree with her, so she can feel better. She'll like wave it around us and think we'll answer the questions right," says sixth grader, Jamal Hughes.
"I try to make learning fun and exciting, and I try to encourage my students who normally don't participate in class by doing things that they're used to like Harry Potter, and try to bring out the magic and their creativity," explains Harrington.
Sixth grader Sierra Becham says her teacher makes learning Science interactive and fun.
"It helps me learn because she's asking us questions and then we have to go from place to place and then she tells us if we're right," says Becham.
She says, "She's a great Science teacher, and she's really nice."
Hughes agrees, "Very good teacher and she helps you learn a lot."
Harrington says her students earned the honor, "This award belongs to the children, the children make my job a whole lot easier."
