A fire that damaged a Macon nursing home apparently was caused by a short ciruit in a heating unit.

That's according to Macon Bibb Fire Chief Marvin Riggins.

Macon-Bibb County Firefighters and Rescue Units responded to a fire atthe Rosewood Nursing Home in northeast Macon early Monday.

Firefighters say when they got there, they found heavy smoke in a building.

Chief Riggins says it started in a mechanical room and two other rooms suffered moderate damage.

Nearly 100 people were evacuated from the nursing home...and 11 were treated for possible smoke inhalation.

But Riggins says there were no serious injuries.

Rosewood is located offNew Clinton Road and Finney Circle.
