With the holidays and cold weather approaching, sometimes all you need is a nice hot meal. The homeless and hungry who arrive at Macon Outreach are fed just that.
Within two years, the number of homeless and hungry who dine at Macon Outreach has almost doubled to 300.
"We don't turn anyone away," says executive director Johnny Hathcock.
Lunch starts at 11 a.m every day except Tuesday when breakfast is served.
The holiday season and cold weather are some of the reasons why more hungry are filling up at Macon Outreach. For Mary Clayborn, a hot meal is just the help she needs right now.
"I'm half blind, disabled, and no one will hire me," she says.
Volunteers and staff at the Downtown Kitchen serve more than one thousand meals every week filled with various ingredients.
"Volunteers are our key ingredient," says Hathcock.
Both food and time are donated to ensure no one walks away hungry.
Macon Outreach is purely run on donations.
