The people suspected of hitting Maliek Montgomery on Thursday are now behind bars facing charges including hit and run resulting in serious injury.
Zachery Guyton and Jasmine McGregor were arrested Monday night and went before a magistrate judge Tuesday.
Maliek Montgomery was hit last Thursday while running on Grand Avenue in Macon and underwent surgery Monday for a broken jaw.
According to the police report, Maliek's father Michael located the two suspects through his own investigation. It started after his friend posted on Facebook offering a reward for information. Guyton was brought in by an investigator for questioning after he allegedly admitted to Michael's friend on the phone that he hit Maliek.
His father said, "He gave me leads telling me where the guys stayed at, and we got a copy of the guy's face from Facebook - his name, and his girlfriend's name, then once we did that, we called the police out here."
He was arrested and sent to the Bibb County jail on several charges including hit and run resulting in serious injury or death.
Then Jasmine McGregor came to the investigators' office to say she was actually the driver. She said she hit Montgomery after falling asleep at the wheel, and kept driving because she was scared. She also claimed Guyton was not in the car at the time.
McGregor now is charged with hit and run resulting in serious injury and death and failure to report and accident with injuries. Guyton now faces just one charge of obstruction.
Tuesday morning Michael Montgomery also helped investigators find the suspects' car thanks to his friend's help.
Bibb County Lieutenant Sean Defoe says the two may face more charges based on crime lab results from the suspects' car.
Michael tells us Maliek is recovering from surgery and should recover fully within a couple months.
