A new geriatric nursing care center will bring around 225 jobs to Baldwin County.

According to a release, Bostick Nursing Center broke ground on a 16-acre, 280-bed facility at the former Central State Hospital Campus in Milledgeville.

It'll be the former hospital's first privately-owned project. Atlanta-based company CorrectHealth LLP opens the facility with the Central State Hospital Local Redevelopment Authority. CSHLRA was created in 2012 under House Bill 815.

CorrectHealth President Carlo Musso, whose company manages the project through subsidiary CorrectLife, says it'll create other jobs as well.

"The construction job,a lot of the satellite and ancillary jobs, support jobs, and just the indirect effect," said Musso.

Garbutt Construction, Dublin based, will do the construction work. Demolition is set to begin next week and building in October. Some residents will be geriatric patients who are in the prison system.

"It will be a facility that will be utilized by those who are in our system now as well as some who are outside of our system now," said Governor Nathan Deal, who was there for the ground breaking.

"Milledgeville has a long and distinguished history of being a healthcare provider to some of Georgia's most challenging patients. That's the history of the Central State Hospital campus," said Musso.
