Twiggs County election officials will recount the ballots next Wednesday in a mayor's race decided by just one vote.

At stake is the mayor's job in Danville, a city of 238 people on the Twiggs-Wilkinson line.

Almost half of the people in town, 108 of them, voted in the mayor's race.

Election results showed Jimmy Smith with 49 votes and Donald Moore with 48. Third-place finisher James Howell had 11.

Twiggs election supervisor Marette Fair says the recount will start at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the county courthouse in Jeffersonville. She said the recount should just take a few minutes and shouldn't cost taxpayers anything.
