Police are looking for two men in connection with the shooting. The victim died at the scene.
The Warner Robins Police Department identified Monnie Joseph Brabham IV, 32, as the victim in Thursday's shooting.at a gas station. Police are still looking for the attacker.
Brabham is from Macon.
Houston County's coroner says a "confrontation at the gas pumps" led to the fatal shooting, which happened around noon.
It happened at the Murphy USA gas station at 501 Booth Road, just south of Russell Parkway near South Davis Drive. Police have not released details about what happened.
Galpin said, "All I know is there was a confrontation at the gas pumps and one guy ended up dead."
Police spokeswoman Tabitha Clark said police are looking for two people in connection with the shooting. No descriptions were available. She said anybody with information on the shooting should call Houston County 911.
Jaime Meilhammer said he pulled into the Zaxby's restaurant next to the gas station after the shooting.

"Police were taping off the scene when we pulled in," he told 13WMAZ. "One person was on the ground. The guy was laying there for a long time. A paramedic came, checked his vitals and they put a sheet over him."
Meilhammer said police had another man in handcuffs. "They were walking him across the lot and they put him in the patrol car," he said.
But Clark said police do not have any suspects in custody.
Investigators searched the scene for several hours before the body was removed by ambulance around 4 p.m.
Warner Robins High School, just over a mile away, was put on lockdown briefly after the shooting, but police advised school officials to lift that precaution as of 1:41 p.m.
