ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Franklin Graham made an online plea Tuesday for prayers for his ailing father, the Rev. Billy Graham.

In a note on the website of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Franklin Graham said his father has been weak since a gala celebration of his 95th birthday held Nov. 7 at the Omni Grove Park Inn.

"Since that night a few short weeks ago, he has had another bout with a respiratory infection and was hospitalized briefly before returning home to recuperate. He is extremely weak but his vitals are good," Franklin Graham said in his note.

Although weak, Graham does not appear to be in any imminent danger, added Mark DeMoss, a Billy Graham Evangelistic Association spokesman.

"Our family would appreciate your prayers for him that the Lord would strengthen him," Franklin Graham said.

The note came after Franklin Graham told a Charlotte TV station last week that his father had been in declining health since the birthday party.

The gala drew about 1,000 people, including such media celebrities as Sarah Palin, Rupert Murdoch, Donald Trump, Glenn Beck, Greta Van Susteren and other Graham friends. The party featured a video that Graham had taped this summer at his Montreat home, sharing the Christian gospel as part of a nationwide video crusade.
