Eighth District Congressman Austin Scott visited Centerville pharmacy "U Save It" to discuss Medicaid cuts that are putting some small pharmacies out of business.

Current regulations prohibit Medicaid payments to pharmacies that are not affiliated with large pharmaceutical corporations, causing hardships for some.

"Obviously a lot of our senior citizens have a hard time traveling," says Scott. "We want to make sure that the pharmacist that's closest to them, that they want to use, they have access to."

Scott says a pending resolution could change that.

He supports H.R.4577, the Ensuring Seniors Access to Local Pharmacies Act of 2014.

"It's about the people and making sure that they have access to the pharmaceuticals that they need," says Scott. "I think anybody on Medicare has the potential to be impacted by it."

The Congressman also discussed the lawsuit House Republicans filed against President Obama.

"Our position in the House is that we are going to pursue the lawsuit against the President for selective enforcement of the laws, which we do not believe he has the authority to do," he explains.

Scott says the House is prepared to take the case all the way to the Supreme Court and hopes the High Court will uphold all of the laws, not just some.

While in Houston County, Scott also planned to discuss military issues with the 21st Century Partnership.
