The Commission on Presidential Debates said there were will be three presidential debates and one forum for the vice presidential nominees, as there were in 2000, 2004 and 2008.

The schedule:

Oct. 16 - Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. (town hall meeting)

Oct. 22 - Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla.
Washington University in St. Louis will be the backup site.

The non-partisan commission is headed by Republican Frank Fahrenkopf, a former national GOP chairman, and Democrat Mike McCurry, press secretary to President Bill Clinton.
