San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Andrew Cashner pitched a career-high eightinnings and the San Diego Padres defeated the Atlanta Braves, 3-2, in themiddle test of a three-game series at Petco Park.

Cashner (5-3) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk in his outing. LukeGregerson got the final out in the ninth to notch his third save.

Chase Headley hit a solo homer, while Nick Hundley and Carlos Quentin eachdrove in one run apiece for the Padres, who have won five of their last sevengames.

Freddie Freeman had an RBI and Jason Heyward had a run scored for the Braves,who saw starter Tim Hudson (4-6) give up three runs on five hits whilestriking out seven in 7 1/3 innings.

Andrelton Simmons started the game with a single, advanced to second on a wildpitch and scored on a single by Freeman.

The Padres responded with a run in each of the first three innings. Headleysmashed a two-out solo shot in the first while Hundley delivered a two-out RBIdouble to left in the second. In the third, Everth Cabrera ripped a double toleft and scored on a single by Quentin.

Hudson retired the next 13 batters before giving up an infield single bypinch-hitter Jesus Guzman to begin the eighth.

Atlanta got one run across in the sixth. Heyward singled to right, advancedto third on a single by Justin Upton and reached home on a double play byFreeman.

However, the Braves were hitless over the final three frames.
